grishick - europian socialism - a scare word? really?

Way too often I hear how republucan talk radio hosts (yeah, that's what you get in Arizona) attempt to accuse Obama of implementing Europian style socialism in the US. Then they often go on the usual slippery slope that they end by screaming "Communism! Nazism! Russians! Armagedon!" The slippery slope was always ridiculous, but I wonder if the premise still works for their constituency either. Seriously, "to live like in europe" should not sound so bad, especially if you have visited EU in the last 4 years and noticed the cheap USD and the expensive Euro, the long vacations they get, better preserved nature, etc. I wouldn't mind it if US was more like EU. But then again, I am not a republican.
